Switch Your Mindset from Self Control to Self Love

If you’re like a lot of people, you’ve noticed that one weight loss plan after another just doesn’t work for long. But in most cases, it’s not the plan that is faulty; it’s simply how we approach them that doesn’t work. As you begin a medical weight loss plan, we want you to have your best chances of success. And that is why we start with changing your mindset around food and eating plans.

You see, the problem is that we tend to approach weight loss plans from the mindset of “self control.” You decide that you will have enough self control to give up all of your favorite foods, follow a particular eating schedule, and stick with it forever. But the problem is, that attitude is rooted in self deprivation and extreme limits, and at some point we all want to rebel against that type of lifestyle. It’s simply no fun!

But when we switch to a mindset of self love, rather than self control, we learn to nourish our bodies with foods that are truly good for us. And at the same time, we’re not focused on deprivation. We learn to make healthier versions of our favorite foods, in the portion sizes that work for a medical weight loss plan. It’s a change of lifestyle that feels healthy and loving, rather than one that feels limited and frustrating.

After all, focusing on what you “can’t” have is the best way to make yourself crave it even more!

We also urge our clients to focus more on how they feel, rather than numbers on a scale. When you feel healthier, more energetic, and more confident, record those feelings in your journal. Over time you will notice a pattern: Healthy food makes you feel good, and you want to treat your body well!

And if you occasionally enjoy a treat, don’t beat yourself up about it. A healthy lifestyle should be rooted in love, not shame.
