Reverse Sun Damage and Banish Brown Age Spots

woman showing by index finger the wrinkles on her foreheadAs you age, you begin to realize the importance of protecting your skin from the sun. But hindsight is 20/20, and you may not have been very careful during your sun-worshiping teens and twenties. Are you forever stuck with sun damage and brown age spots from past tanning sessions?

Luckily, no. While brown age spots were previously difficult to treat, technology has brought us new solutions for one of our most stubborn complexion problems. Cutera’s Limelight Facial uses pulses of light to treat sun damage on your face, neck, and decolletage. The treatment also works well to reduce tiny veins (telangiectasia) and even rosacea (redness).

If you’re bothered by unsightly sun damage or brown spots, you’ll be relieved to know that Limelight facials offer a significant improvement in your skin tone within one to three treatments. The treatments themselves are easy; simply make an appointment, and in less than an hour your Limelight facial is complete. You could even schedule treatments during your lunch break!

You won’t need any anesthetic or pain medication, because you’ll only feel a mild stinging sensation from light pulses. Your physician may apply a cooling gel to your skin before the session, but this is generally all patients require in the way of comfort. After your Limelight facial, you should feel very comfortable, but the treated skin may be slightly red and swollen for a few hours to about a day. It’s fine to use makeup to cover the redness, and to return to your usual activities.

Immediately following treatment with Limelight, your brown age spots will darken slightly. Then, over the next one to three weeks, they will gradually fade and flake away. If you had treatment for tiny veins or rosacea, you will notice that your skin tone becomes more even.

As always, prevention is the key to maintaining a healthy, youthful complexion. Always use sunscreen when outdoors to prevent further sun damage and brown spots. But rest assured; if you do slip up and forget, future sun damage can also be treated with a Limelight facial.

If you’re interested in reversing sun damage, or reducing the appearance of small veins and rosacea, call our office to schedule a consultation. Within just a few weeks, you can enjoy a fresh, younger-looking complexion.
