8 Fun Ways to Get Moving

Are you feeling tired of your usual exercise routine? Or do you want to identify more ways that you can get moving throughout the day, to increase your calorie burn and stave off boredom?

It can be daunting to fit another “workout” into your daily routine, but what if you just called it “activity”? Try these fun ideas to get moving more often, and as a bonus, you can include the whole family. Now you’re having fun while supporting your weight loss plan.

Start a garden. Gardening burns more calories than you might think! Plus, growing your own food is the best way to obtain fresh, healthy veggies.

Volunteer. Join a volunteer effort to clean up a local park or highway. You can do something good for your body and the community at the same time.

Throw a family dance party. Crank up your favorite tunes and throw out your best moves in the living room or backyard.

Host your own “Olympics”. Family members can compete in neighborhood races, long jump, high jump, and more.

Try YouTube classes from your living room. Choose a different fun activity each day, like yoga, Zumba, or ballroom dancing. Or, dedicate yourself to honing one skill to perfection.

Let the kids decide. If you have kids, you might have noticed that they never seem to stop moving. Ask if you can play a game in which you copy all of their movements. They will think it’s hilarious, and you might get a great workout.

Simply go for a walk. Not all of your activity needs to be about heart-pumping excitement. Just going for a walk after dinner is a great way to stay active without much effort.

“Race clean” the house. Set a timer and issue a challenge: Who can get the most cleaning done in thirty minutes?
