Even the most dedicated fitness enthusiast has “off days”. So if you’re feeling boredom, a lack of motivation, or just plain dread going to the gym, don’t beat yourself up about it. Most people couldn’t do the same routine day after day without getting tired of it. Just remember that calories can be burned in a number of ways, and you don’t have to engage in any particular exercise to reach your weight loss or fitness goals. Bust out of your workout rut by trying something new, such as…
Hula hooping. Hula hooping makes a great core workout, plus it will make you feel like a kid again! The American Council on Exercise studied hula hooping and concluded that the average person could burn 210 calories in a half-hour class.
Aerial yoga. In a fun twist on traditional yoga, you’ll perform your moves while suspended in a comfy hammock apparatus. Tone your core, improve flexibility, and burn about 200 calories per half hour.
Underwater spin. Don’t worry; you won’t actually be underwater, so you don’t need to be a synchronized swimmer to engage in underwater spin classes! Your bike, and the the lower part of your body, will be in the pool, where the water provides resistance to your movements. It’s like a typical spin class, but slower. Don’t let that fool you though! Underwater spin is not exactly easier, and you’ll torch 400 calories or so during your class.
Ultimate Frisbee. Grab some friends or your kids, and head to a local park for a little friendly competition. Don’t worry about your calorie burn; you’ll be moving and running plenty, but having fun is the point here.
Try the trampoline. If you have a backyard trampoline, or can head to a nearby trampoline park, you’re in for a fun workout. Let loose and have fun! Just don’t risk injury by trying any kind of crazy flips.
